One of the municipality’s biggest projects is currently underway in Orust – the expansion of the Ellös sewage treatment plant. Seven treatment plants will be merged into one, with discharge, treatment, and the work environment all seeing improvements. Through its recently established collaboration with Malmbergs, Hydria Water is the all-in-one supplier of the equipment for the plant’s mechanical separation.
In scenic Orust, the number of inhabitants triples during the summer months. This puts extra pressure on sewage treatment needs. The discharge point is the vulnerable Ellösefjord, which is yet another reason why the bar has been set so high. Consequently, the decision has been made to invest in the remodelling and expansion of Ellös sewage treatment plant in order to establish a modern and cost-effective facility that adheres to future environmental requirements.
“This project is especially exciting for us for several reasons. It represents our first collaboration with Malmbergs, and is our biggest inlet project to date. We also have the opportunity to supply almost our entire range of products,” explains Johan Fritz, sales manager at Hydria Water.
Hydria Water will supply things such as its chain scrapers, inlet screens, wash presses, shredders, sand washers, sand classifiers, external sludge receivers, and channel filters for the Ellös project. This makes Hydria Water an all-in-one supplier for mechanical separation.
“This is a major project where we’re working closely with Malmbergs. We’ve also been able to assist with the technical specification. We know that we’re agile and flexible, and that our design and production are closely linked, which allows us to supply machinery that’s tailored to the project’s specific conditions,” says Johan.
The initial installation took place at the end of 2023. Hydria Water will also be involved in commissioning and tuning. By 1 January 2025, the plant will be fully operational and feature nitrogen reduction, ready to process all of Orust’s wastewater.
